10-year-old boy electrocuted at hotel in front of mum and nan

A TEN-year-old boy has tragically passed away four days after being electrocuted at a Blackpool hotel, an inquest has heard. Jack Piper-Sheach was on holiday in the seaside town when he suffered a severe electric shock at Tiffany’s Hotel on the Promenade. The young boy was enjoying the getaway with his mum Kelly, his aunt Katie, and nan when the tragedy occurred.

Jack, from Grimsby, Lincs, was discovered unresponsive by his “devastated” family at around 10.39 pm on September 3 last year. Emergency services swiftly transported him to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, where his heartbroken mum remained by his side. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries four days later.

Jack’s cause of death was a hypoxic brain injury due to prolonged cardiac arrest, caused by an electrocution injury, as confirmed by a consultant at the hospital. During a hearing on Tuesday, it was revealed that Tiffany’s Hotel had undergone two electrical checks in 2020, with subsequent work being carried out.

The hotel temporarily closed for several weeks following the tragedy but has since reopened.

Further details regarding the state of the hotel are anticipated to be presented at a final inquest date scheduled for the summer.
